#824 Art Exhibition – Watershed in Chelsea

Watershed Art Exhibition

Watershed Art Exhibition

We have talked about Watershed before. It’s a photo project that follows a watershed from the headwaters of Gatineau Park towards the Gatineau River, Ottawa River and the ocean. Over 11 years we have followed the trickle from over a 10 km stretch documenting its path.

The exhibition has been seen in different venues but we are bringing it to Chelsea, a mere 73 metres from the actual Watershed route.

Please join us in Chelsea as we bring Watershed home.

#814 Reminder – “Nuit Noire” Art Exhibition – Vernissage Thursday

While we’d LOVE you to come visit us at Nuit Noire’s Vernissage this Thursday at the Cube Gallery we understand that some of you just may not be able to make it. Don, Cube’s main brains, was kind enough to show a 360 preview of the show.

I’ll be there Thursday night with other fine artists like Becky Mason, Reid McLachlan.

Night shooting is one of my favourite times to shoot. We even have a course dedicated to night time photography – NightLight – stay tuned for dates in October 2012.

Read last year’s review in the Xpress.

Visit the Cube’s Nuit Noire page (scroll down) for the night time events related to this show.

Hope to see you there…

Photography Art Exhibition

Photography Art Exhibition at the Cube.

We’re back at the Cube Gallery in July participating in Nuit Noire II.

A very fun show highlighting night inspired works.

I’ll be showing a large photo shot on medium format film (lovely stuff) of a fire lit teepee at dusk. Similar to the shot above.

The show runs July 3rd to July 29th with a Vernissage Thursday, July 5th from 5pm. We’d love to see you there!

#806 Blog Review – Music Photography Show

We’ve been tweeting, posting and yelling about the Music Photo Exhibition at the photo studio this past weekend.

People kept coming to see the work from 8 fine photographers (see the show posting for bios and photos.) Our event ran at the same time as Italian Week festivities right out the studio door.

So, it was so busy and fun that I, erm, didn’t get around to taking any photos – oops. Thanks to one of the guests for the photo below.

The event brought a lot of attention – so much so that it looks like this will have to be an annual event – stay tuned for a call for artwork and details next winter/spring.

We plan to have some open doors in the next month or so to welcome people into the show.

Thanks to everybody for contributions!

#805 Spring photography in review

The last months have been very fun and full at HarryNowell.com. A bit of a review:

Photography Classes and Safaris

We had a full schedule this spring with standard courses like Creative Fundamentals + sheep shearing safari and some new sessions with new photo instructors like:

Louise Tanguay and Macro Photography (full and just started!)

Blair Gable and On-Location Lighting – the first workshop filled so quickly we had to offer a second session coming up in July

Our ProProgram students continue to grow and make me smile with their accomplishments!

Urban Compositions Photo Safari

Assignment Work

Recently, we’ve had some fun work  including stocks shoots with the government and private schools (photos coming soon), press and event coverage.

#796 Watershed Exhibition at The New Art Festival

This coming weekend we will be pitching the largest selection of our Watershed exhibition so far – we have just printed some new work for the first time.

Please join us at The New Art Festival in the Glebe’s Central Park next weekend – June 2 and 3, 2012.

Find us at booth 19 NORTH. That’s near the intersection of Bank and Patterson.

Watershed?

Watershed– weaves its way from the headwaters in Gatineau Park crossing boundaries, backyards, and a village eventually falling into the Ottawa River. The process of exploration and photography began over 10 years ago as my dog and I wandered, wondering where the creek behind our house went.

Watershed Art Exhibit - Ottawa

Watershed Art Exhibit - Ottawa

As Watershed transformed from fun adventure into a collection of artwork I revisited sites on the waterway documenting the landscapes encountered by the liquid thread: rusted debris, concrete monsters and devastatingly pristine beauty. The creek refuses containment and consistency.

On the journey I found ever changing magnicence, carcasses of decaying cars and extensive feats (and wrecks) of bulldozed infrastructure – all around the same water flow. The waterway crosses jurisdictions with a disregard for policy, best intentions and human engineering. The creek respects no boundaries.

Watershed illustrates the power of an innocuous trickle while wryly smiling at attempts to contain, dene and shape the powerful force of water.

The photo exhibition was captured on film and digital equipment from small modern digital SLR cameras to the stunning medium and large format cameras used by masters of landscape photography.

Please join us at The New Art Festival in Ottawa’s Glebe neighbourhood near Bank and Patterson at booth 19 NORTH.

On Friday at our photo studio we hosted the vernissage for Elmwood School’s year end art exhibit featuring their talented students. The opening was a great success – the place was full and overflowed onto Preston Street for part of the evening.
