I shot some portraits for a small Ottawa firm looking to show off their green side. Portraits in the studio were not an option – we discussed alternatives and settled for something outside with a more natural look.
Four executives had portraits taken – we made them smile.

This summer I shot some fun executive portraits around Ottawa for different groups. Many were shot on location to highlight important elements for each client.
Below is a portrait for an aeronautical engineer who needed a fresh look for web and other marketing possibilities for his consulting business. Where else to shoot this but at Ottawa’s airport!

Yesterday we shot some executive portraits for a firm that could be classified as ‘environmental portraits.’
Truth be told, I used to think an environmental portrait was a portrait done to promote or show off a green attribute. Silly me… An environmental portrait is “executed in the subject’s usual environment“:

Yesterday’s portraits (coming soon) were environmental as they captured the exec’s in an environment they like to be as well as promoted the environmental side of their business.

I have been a little negligent showing some current work!
Recently, we shot a whole office of executives and support staff to promote their business. The session went well.
A peculiar thing happened: while setting up I found that two of the 12 staff had shot a hole-in-one. I was amazed! That’s 16% of the whole office – far higher than average. I was dealing with an exceptional group!

Remember the Luskville Dragway shoot for Ottawa Magazine?
It hit the news stands recently featuring fun summer options around Ottawa. There was a full page from the shoot of the race cars. I was pretty pleased.
And, speaking of fast cars, tomorrow I will be shooting part of the Ferrari Festival as part of Italian week on Preston Street in Ottawa. My shoot will be at Calabogie Motorsports Club. Very fun!

It was a good weekend for running the National Capital Marathon events. Cool and good weather.
My assignment at the Ottawa Marathon event was head of cheering for my wife and friends. I used to shoot more sports events as part of my work. Times have changed and many people offer photo work for free or almost free – prices plummetted and I now do other photo work (as well as jobs like head cheerleader for my wife). Times change – you’ve gotta keep moving.
While cheering for my wife, I shot parts of the marathon and half marathon on Sunday.

Ottawa Half Marathon Smiles - 2010
This weekend was the Royal Ottawa Hospital’s 100th anniversary. I have worked for them covering different events over the years.
On Saturday I covered all kinds of events at the hospital – from lectures to info kiosks to volunteers to ceremonies to the highlight of the day – an appearance by Ottawa Senator’s star Daniel Alfredsson.
Alfredsson is a star on the ice but he also shines brightly in how he gives to community. He helps bring awareness to the often “shush-ed” issues of mental health.
When I’ve worked events for the hospital I get a little choked up (really) seeing the good work being done and the difference the people at the hospital make.
While I was working Alfredsson was very approachable and down to earth. He’s a superstar – and I am not talking about hockey.

Remember Westboro Academy?
Late last year I did some work for the private school in Ottawa. Their website did not do their school justice!
Recently, though, they invested in a new website that showcases Westboro Academy in a much brighter light using much of the work I shot – there are also some photos we did not provide.
Their website comes across far better and should do well to attract attention.

We were asked to do some work at Luskville Dragway, just northwest of Ottawa – to capture some of the fun at this traditional dragstrip. The day’s weather co-operated for the day – it was a test day at the track where people could test and tinker with their machines.
The assignment was editorial and they were looking for a single photo to show some of the action. Below are a couple of the out-takes – ie not the best shots – but a teaser of the types of cars the track caters to – from dragsters to motorcycles to street cars to suped-up roadsters.
