What you will learn

The first Tuesday will be spent learning the Photoshop CS interface and adjusting preferences. We will cover Adobe Bridge (the file management tool included with Photoshop), tools, tool options, shortcuts, workspace, colour management and more. The goal of the first night is to have you set up and ready to edit!

The second Tuesday will deal with Adobe Camera RAW (ACR), the RAW file processing tool included with Photoshop CS. We will cover opening your files in ACR, available tools in ACR, making global adjustments to your images such as: white balance, sharpening, clarity, cropping and straightening, curves, as well as local adjustment and more.

On the third Tuesday we will begin to look at editing in Photoshop. We will learn the powerful concept of layers and the different types of layers. From here we will work through various tutorials which cover several techniques for post processing digital images: cropping, improving tone and contrast, exposure correction, global and local colour correction, various black and white conversions. We will supply the students with all the same sample photographs from which to work as well as each tutorial written out step by step to practice at home.

On the fourth Tuesday we will continue with working in Photoshop and the tutorials will focus on finer editing techniques such as cloning, healing, dust removal, damage repair, replacing or rebuilding sections of a photograph, enhancing parts of a photograph. We will also cover actions, brushes, and finalizing your image for print or web.

When you have completed the course, you will have all the tools and resources you will need to make each of your images shine!
