Sport Sessions Photo Challenge

Four sessions of sport photo challenges! We will learn through three challenges geared around cycling with a final critique session to review work. We will learn about shooting motion, events and high speed subjects. This event gives photo participants the chance to watch photo skills progress with photographer Harry Nowell over four weeks.

The course is designed for people with base photo skills. You should be comfortable with settings on your camera and be able to achieve reasonable exposures. We will go to different locations in the city to test ourselves in different scenarios.

What students say:
"Hi Harry, I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed and benefited from your Sessions workshop. Each session presented interesting challenges. With encouragement from you I moved forward. It was really great to see how my skills improved over the course of the sessions. There is definitely a cumulative benefit to doing sessions over a course of several weeks.
Thanks again,
Al"

You will learn:

  • to manage equipment for fast paced sports
  • dealing with different weather and shooting locations
  • compositional details
  • shooting high speed subjects
  • use of creative motion

"Is this a digital or film course?" It is a photography course - about creating better pictures. The emphasis is on your skills behind the camera and your ability to effectively use the camera you have. Many participants bring digital cameras. Many choose film. Some bring both! Having people with both technologies on a course helps to compare the differences. Do not worry about your equipment - all you need is a 35mm SLR camera and lens(es) - no "point and shoot" cameras please.
