A colleague, <a title=\"Brian Goldschmeid\" href=\"http:\/\/www.basicallybrian.com\/\" onclick=\"return TrackClick('http%3A%2F%2Fwww.basicallybrian.com%2F','Brian+Goldschmeid')\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brian<\/a>, who shoots music, festivals and fashion sent me a link to a <a title=\"SportsShooter.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sportsshooter.com\/news\/1989\" onclick=\"return TrackClick('http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sportsshooter.com%2Fnews%2F1989','SportsShooter.com')\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recent news article<\/a> that is all too telling.<\/p>\n<p>Now, truth be told, there are two charitable groups I support with some photography once a year &#8211; one being the <a title=\"Dogs and photography\" href=\"http:\/\/www.harrynowell.com\/blog\/2009\/12\/08\/387-the-dogs\/\" onclick=\"return TrackClick('http%3A%2F%2Fwww.harrynowell.com%2Fblog%2F2009%2F12%2F08%2F387-the-dogs%2F','Dogs+and+photography')\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">SPCA of West Quebec<\/a>. That aside, it can be frustrating to lose work, usually to amateurs, who love to see their photos used.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s no fun to get scooped but the effect of digital cameras is here to stay. This free phenomenon has dramatically changed the stock photography industry, festival photography and many others areas.<\/p>\n<p>The value of photos like the one, below, has drooped because so many people are willing to give them away.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Free photo phenomenon\" src=\"http:\/\/www.HarryNowell.com\/Photo\/blog\/Kayak1.jpg\" alt=\"Free photo phenomenon\" width=\"450\" height=\"309\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Free photo phenomenon<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As frustrating as it is, photographers have to adapt. <em>Free is not going away<\/em>.
