I have been &#8216;moved along&#8217; from public places because I had a camera and was photographing.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>It&#8217;s a tricky situation.<\/strong><\/em> Security is important but getting official permission to shoot is often overwhelmingly tough! I choose what to do about permissions depending on circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>The photo below was taken on a bus service from Reykjavik to Iceland&#8217;s international airport.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Did I ask permission? NO! They would have said a quick no.<\/li>\n<li>Is it causing any trouble? NO! Nobody is recognizable, there are no logos.<\/li>\n<li>I didn&#8217;t ask and I also didn&#8217;t make a big production of the shoot. I chose my seat knowing the photo I wanted and quietly shot with the camera in my lap.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Transport Photography\" src=\"http:\/\/www.HarryNowell.com\/Photo\/blog\/BusIceland.jpg\" alt=\"Transport Photography\" width=\"450\" height=\"301\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Transport Photography<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Chris suggested a <a title=\"Ottawa photo and security\" href=\"http:\/\/www.boingboing.net\/2010\/03\/24\/ottawa-joins-the-war.html\" onclick=\"return TrackClick('http%3A%2F%2Fwww.boingboing.net%2F2010%2F03%2F24%2Fottawa-joins-the-war.html','Ottawa+photo+and+security')\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a> he found that is a bit of a personal rant on security and photography in Ottawa.<\/p>\n<p>Chris also suggests there are OCTranspo exemptions to transit photography and photographing Ottawa buses and transit when it is for personal use:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Exemptions for PERSONAL use of camera equipment were posted by an OCTranspo Driver:<br \/>\n<em>OC Transpo (Section 19, &#8220;General Prohibitions&#8221;)<br \/>\n(6) No person shall operate any camera, video recording device, movie camera or any similar device on transit property without the express written permission of the Director.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>BUT&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>(7) Subsection (6) does not apply to the following:<br \/>\na. the operation by a person of any camera, video recording device, movie camera or similar device on a transit vehicle where such operation is for personal use; or<br \/>\nb. the operation by a person of any camera, video recording device, movie camera or similar device on a transit station platform area where such operation is for personal use.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Thanks Chris!<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a tricky area! Take photos. Do good things. Be polite.
