This year I have not pursued the work and it&#8217;s a bit of a relief.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chelseagallery.ca\/HarryNowell\/Rock_and_Roll_Photos\/images\/Ani_DiFranco.jpg\" alt=\"Ani Defranco\" height=\"450\" width=\"316\" \/> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.righteousbabe.com\/ani\/\" onclick=\"return TrackClick('http%3A%2F%2Fwww.righteousbabe.com%2Fani%2F','Ani+DiFranco')\" title=\"Ani DiFranco\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ani DiFranco<\/a><\/p>\n<p>What happened?!<\/p>\n<p>Nothing bad happened. I started shooting Bluesfest in 2002 and had reasonable success selling Bluesfest imagery through agencies, magazines and newspapers. My work appeared in local media and as far away as the LA Times.<\/p>\n<p>The trouble was:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>restrictions were getting more strict<\/li>\n<li>competition was tight<\/li>\n<li>budgets were small<\/li>\n<li>there are often young photographers willing to do <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harrynowell.com\/blog\/2008\/07\/14\/101-supply-and-demand\/\" onclick=\"return TrackClick('http%3A%2F%2Fwww.harrynowell.com%2Fblog%2F2008%2F07%2F14%2F101-supply-and-demand%2F','Supply+and+demand')\" title=\"Supply and demand\">ANYTHING<\/a> to get in the media enclosures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In summary:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Large supply of photographers<\/li>\n<li>Small demand for imagery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>My time invested was extensive. My rewards were moderate.<br \/>\nWould I shoot more concert work and festivals? Definitely! If the rewards were appropriate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chelseagallery.ca\/HarryNowell\/Rock_and_Roll_Photos\/images\/Ben%20HarperCGl.jpg\" alt=\"Ben Harper\" height=\"450\" width=\"319\" \/> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.benharper.com\/\" onclick=\"return TrackClick('http%3A%2F%2Fwww.benharper.com%2F','Ben+Harper')\" title=\"Ben Harper\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ben Harper<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gaining access to shooting a popular event is relatively easy if you&#8217;ve done your legwork and have a strong body of appropriate work behind you. Making a significant living is more challenging. It requires:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> good people skills<\/li>\n<li>business skills<\/li>\n<li>opportunity<\/li>\n<li>appropriate market<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chelseagallery.ca\/HarryNowell\/Rock_and_Roll_Photos\/images\/Allison_Kraus.jpg\" alt=\"Alison Kraus\" height=\"450\" width=\"312\" \/> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alisonkrauss.com\/site.php\" onclick=\"return TrackClick('http%3A%2F%2Fwww.alisonkrauss.com%2Fsite.php','Alison+Kraus')\" title=\"Alison Kraus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alison Kraus<\/a><br \/>\nWhat am I going to do with all the time I used to spend shooting Bluesfest?
