Four adult family members wanted portraits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Casual<\/li>\n<li>Candid<\/li>\n<li>Personalities revealed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I suggested we meet at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canadascapital.gc.ca\/bins\/ncc_web_content_page.asp?cid=16297-16299-10170-49685-49721-49723&amp;lang=1\" onclick=\"return TrackClick('http%3A%2F%2Fwww.canadascapital.gc.ca%2Fbins%2Fncc_web_content_page.asp%3Fcid%3D16297-16299-10170-49685-49721-49723%26amp%3Blang%3D1','MacKenzie+King+Estates')\" title=\"MacKenzie King Estates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">McKenzie King Estates<\/a> in Gatineau Park. We visited the ruins and hiked the Larriault Trail as I eased some personal portraits from them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em><strong>What?! <\/strong><\/em>I thought you were taking their portraits not hiking.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yes.<\/strong> Portraits. Gentle hiking. Family fun. It&#8217;s a good mix.<\/p>\n<p>I find that, in some cases, <strong>personal portraits<\/strong> can be best achieved by <em>disguising the portraits as something else<\/em>. As a fly on the wall, clients forget I am photographing them. Their true selves shine as they did for the portrait, below, of a man and his dog, captured during some fun in the snow.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.harrynowell.com\/newsletter\/may07-portraits.jpg\" alt=\"Ottawa Portraits\" height=\"252\" width=\"179\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So during this weekend&#8217;s portrait session we walked a little. Brian brought his watercolours. And I was able to capture <strong>individual and group personalities<\/strong> far better than in a studio or traditional portrait session.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>recent client commented on this approach<\/strong>: &#8220;&#8230; the day was filled with emotions that Harry captured beautifully, being a &#8216;fly on the wall&#8217;. When we saw the photos the first time, it was <em>stunning to see how well they told the story<\/em>\u2026 Yep, I had <strong><em>tears in my eyes<\/em><\/strong> again!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>H<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tweet I captured more people pictures this weekend.
