Looking for other opinions I asked <a title=\"Christine Denis\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christinedenis.com\/\" onclick=\"return TrackClick('http%3A%2F%2Fwww.christinedenis.com%2F','Christine+Denis')\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christine Denis<\/a> &#8211; maternity, newborn photographer and leader of our <a title=\"photographing your children course\" href=\"http:\/\/www.harrynowell.com\/workshops\/workshops_photographing_children.htm\" onclick=\"return TrackClick('http%3A%2F%2Fwww.harrynowell.com%2Fworkshops%2Fworkshops_photographing_children.htm','photographing+your+children+course')\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Photographing Your Children Workshop<\/a> &#8211; what exposure mode she uses.<\/p>\n<p><em>This workshop has new dates: October 5 (eve), 9 (day) and 12 (eve).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>She was pretty direct (see below):<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 460px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"Photographing Your Children Workshop\" onclick=\"return TrackClick('Photographing+Your+Children+Workshop','Photographing+Your+Children+Workshop')\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Photographing Your Children Workshop\" onclick=\"return TrackClick('Photographing+Your+Children+Workshop','Photographing+Your+Children+Workshop')\" src=\"http:\/\/www.HarryNowell.com\/Photo\/blog\/CDenis.jpg\" alt=\"Photographing Your Children Workshop\" onclick=\"return TrackClick('Photographing+Your+Children+Workshop','Photographing+Your+Children+Workshop')\" width=\"450\" height=\"414\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photographing Your Children Workshop<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;<em>I shoot manual because I want complete control over what I capture with my camera.\u00a0 I make the decisions &#8211;<em> <\/em><\/em><em>not the camera <\/em><em>&#8211; on what part of the image will be exposed correctly and what type of motion will be captured.\u00a0 The results are properly exposed images, with nice skin tones, and sharpness where I want it to be. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Shooting in manual also gives you the freedom to be as creative as your imagination will take you.\u00a0 The photo above is an example of what I mean, my daughter is back lit, and off centered. I wanted a nice blurry background, so I set my aperture to 2.8, then took an exposure reading off her face and set the speed accordingly.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t mind that the rim of her hair was backlit, and the backgroud a little brighter &#8211; it was the effect I wanted. It would have been impossible to take this shot in Auto or Program mode.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yep, those are my sentiments! But this can be a hot topic.
